Music licensing is easy

rightclearing.com clears music rights for a living. The job was to explain that — the advantages of licensing, and how the site works — in a couple of minutes someone would actually watch.

I handled the whole thing: style, storyboard and script. The point was a theme playful enough to carry a fairly dry subject without losing it, so the ideas had somewhere friendly to live.

The first plan was to film it by hand. In practice, building it digitally turned out to be far easier to control, so it became an animation instead.

Everything is animated and rendered in After Effects, driven by Expressions — animation by scripting rather than keyframe by keyframe. The artwork was drawn in Illustrator. Music is HDG (Instrumental) by Knackeboul; Alex Rain read the voiceover.

We meant to film it by hand. The computer just turned out to be the easier camera.
