Mehrspur Club, Zürich
Mehrspur is the music venue of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). I have designed, coded and looked after its website since 2014 — long enough to watch a decade of gigs come and go.
The programme is a cornucopia. Student bands one night, touring international acts the next, and — this being Zurich — an excellent bar throughout. A venue site has to keep up with all of it.
My role was the unglamorous kind: designing, maintaining and coding the site, year after year. Not a launch-and-leave project but a standing arrangement. Trends came and went; the site kept working.
The temptation with a music venue is to make the website as loud as the room. I resisted. What matters is that you can see what's on tonight and find your way to the door. Everything else has to earn its place.
A venue site has one job: what's on tonight. Everything else is decoration.
